What Is Polycystic Kidney Disease

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder in which many fluid-filled cysts develop in the kidneys. These cysts grow over time and can enlarge the kidneys, reducing their ability to filter waste from the blood. PKD may also affect other organs, such as the liver and blood vessels. Common symptoms include high blood pressure, back or side pain, frequent urination, and urinary tract infections.
